Board Chair: Robert D. Shaw Jr. M.D. Dr. Shaw is a family physician who has been medicine in Willow Springs for the past 23 years. He was born and raised in Willow Springs and has always has a commitment to the health of residents of Howell County. He believes the role of public health is vital to the continued growth of prosperity of the county. He was originally appointed to the board by the Howell County commissioners, and has since been elected to serve a four-year term.

Co-Chair: K. Madalyn Hicks, RN, BSN. Madalyn is the Health Coordinator for West Plains R-7 School District. She, her husband Bruce, and their 17 year old son Ross, reside in West Plains. Madalyn was appointed initially to the newly formed Howell County Health Department (HCHD) Board in June of 2003. The following April she was elected to fill a two-year term. She currently serves as Vice-Chairperson for the HCHD Board. Madalyn states that she is very excited to have the opportunity to serve on this Board. “Having been a school nurse for the last 14 years, I am involved daily with the Public Health issues that face area residents. I feel I can bring a lot of first-hand knowledge to the HCHD Board because I am already immersed in the community.” Madalyn goes on to add, public health is a very exciting field to be a part of.” She expresses her appreciation to the voters of Howell County for letting her represent them in this capacity. |

Treasurer: Reverend Arthur H. Ellsworth 53 year old United Methodist Minister currently serving the Cabool and Willow Springs Churches of Missouri. Art lives in Willow Springs and has been a resident of Howell County since 1992, when with his family he moved from Brooksville, Florida to Southfork. Art served as associate pastor of First United Methodist of West Plains until August of 2004 when he was reappointed to Willow Springs. Art was instrumental in bringing Howell County its first federally funded community health care center, of which he served as a charter board member and treasurer until 2004. He was asked by the Howell County Commissioners to serve on the newly formed Howell County Health Department, and was elected to a first term of four years expiring in 2008.

Leon Walker Leon has been an insurance agent for the past 40 years. Leon is a lifelong resident of Howell County . He has been married for 47 years and has 3 children, and 8 grandchildren. As a Mountain View resident Leon possesses an ongoing interest in areas health care and health care facilities. Leon has demonstrated his commitment to the health and safety of our community by serving on a number of other boards, in addition to HCHD, including a 15 year term on a local nursing home board, 5 years of service on the Mtn View City Council, and serving as a member of the school board for 9 years. |
